Slope Away From The Foundation Front Yard Foundation Planting
This home and landscaping were planned and created with a lot of consideration to drainage away from the foundation of the home. The house itself is set several inches above the rest of the property and the beds slope away from the foundation. Very little moisture will saturate directly next to the foundation of the home.
While this house is set several inches higher that the rest of the landscaping, it would really only be an option to create if you were building new. However, this much slope isn't necessary to help drain the water away. As little as a half inch will be helpful if that's all you can do. You don't want to pile soil, ground cover, or any other moisture retaining materials next to siding or other building materials that may be affected by moisture.
If you do have an option to create slope away from your foundation and are planning to plant landscaping plants, you'll need to consider a balance or way to get the water to saturate around the plants before it drains off. Usually a drip system with individual emitters on each plant works well.
